michigan is number 1 Georgia slipped to No. 6 in the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday after winning 29 games for the first time since winning its last national championship in 1997. Snatched by Alabama.
Michigan received 51 votes for first place. No. 2 Washington There were 11 votes for first place and the Huskies were Texas at number 3 And Florida state is at number four. All four are conference champions and all but the Longhorns are undefeated.
Alabama moved up three spots to No. 5 after defeating Georgia 27-24 in the Southeastern Conference title game on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ streak of 24 consecutive weeks at No. 1 was broken. This is the second longest election in AP election history, behind Southern California’s 33 from 2003–05.
The poll was released a while ago college football playoff rankings, With Alabama, Texas, Florida State and Georgia Competing for the final two spots.
Ohio State was ranked seventh, with Oregon, Missouri and Penn State in the top 10.
Michigan is the first No. 1 team from outside the SEC since Clemson in 2020 and the first No. 1 team from outside the South since top-ranked Big Ten rival Ohio State in 2015.
Washington has its best ranking since reaching No. 2 in 1997 and Texas has its best ranking since reaching No. 2 in 2009.
