WCK calls for independent commission, says IDF can’t investigate its own ‘failure’

DUBAI (Reuters) – Aid charity World Central Kitchen on Friday called for an independent commission to investigate the killings of its staff in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, saying the Israeli military could not credibly investigate its “failure”. .

The aid workers were killed on Monday when their convoy was attacked shortly after unloading 100 tons of food aid brought into Gaza by sea.

According to a statement published by WCK, “Without systemic change, there will be more military failures, more apologies and more grieving families.”

WCK founder and celebrity chef José Andrés said that the Israeli attack had targeted his activists “systematically, car by car”.

Amid widespread condemnation, the US and Israel’s other allies sought clarification over the incident.

Israel said on Friday that its investigation into the incident had found serious errors and violations of procedure by its military. It said two senior officers had been dismissed and senior commanders had been formally reprimanded.
