Madison, Wis. (AP) – University of wisconsin The Board of Regents voted unanimously Wednesday to fire the chancellor of one of its campuses for unspecified behavior that could damage the school system’s reputation.

Joe Go has been dismissed as chancellor of UW-La Crosse, effective immediately, the university announced Wednesday night.

“In recent times, we became aware of Dr. Gou’s egregious conduct, which has caused significant damage to the reputation of the university. His actions were despicable,” said UW President Jay Rothman.

Rothman said that as a tenured faculty member, Go will be placed on paid administrative leave in conjunction with the change in his faculty role.

However, Rothman said he filed a complaint Wednesday evening with Interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan asking that Go’s status as a tenured faculty member be reviewed.

An outside law firm has been hired “to conduct a thorough investigation of the matter,” Rothman said.

An email was sent to Gau seeking comment.

Karen Walsh, chair of the UW System Regents, issued a statement saying, “Go has shown reckless disregard for the role he has been entrusted with to serve the students, faculty and staff at UW-La Crosse, and the campus community.”
