Special counsel says former FBI informant accused of lying about Biden and his son

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. special counsel leading the criminal investigation of Joe Biden’s son on Thursday accused a former FBI informant of lying about the president and Hunter Biden’s involvement in business deals with Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings. Was accused of speaking.

In a statement, special counsel David Weiss said a federal grand jury had indicted Alexander Smirnov, 43, on charges of making “false statements” and “creating false and fictitious records” in connection with the FBI investigation.

Weiss said Smirnov was arrested Wednesday at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, after arriving in the United States from abroad.
