The first shots were fired when the train stopped at the upscale Bronx station shortly before 5 p.m. and continued across the crowded platform as passengers fled. New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney said earlier this week that authorities later recovered 19 bullet casings, including three from inside a subway car.

A 35-year-old man named Obed Beltran-Sanchez died after being shot in the chest. Five other people were injured, ranging in age from 14 to 71.

According to the US Marshals Service, officers from the Regional Fugitive Task Force and NYPD arrested the 16-year-old suspect around 11 a.m. in the Bronx. He was being held in custody while awaiting charges.
