Kansas City, MO. (AP) – A shooting inside a popular shopping mall on the edge of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, left six people injured, authorities said.

The glass inside the mall was broken due to the firing that took place at Crown Center around 5:45 pm on Wednesday evening. Two of the injured were found in the food court area on the lower level. Police later learned that four other people had gone to the hospital in a private vehicle. All six are expected to survive, said police spokesman Sgt. Jake Bechina said.

Most of the injured were in their late teens or early 20s, but police said one victim was at least 50 years old. It was not immediately known whether some or all of the injured were involved in the brawl or were bystanders.

Witnesses told police that a verbal argument between two groups led to the shooting that damaged some businesses inside the mall. Witness John Gaston told KCTV-TV He heard gunshots, then saw chaos.

“Almost everyone was screaming, running,” Gaston said.

Bechina said several people were detained for questioning at the scene, but police have not yet announced any arrests.
