FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) — Two crew members aboard the Holland America cruise ship died during an “incident” in an engineering area of the ship, the cruise line said.
Unidentified crew members died on Friday FloridaHolland America said in a statement that Nieuw was at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, off Amsterdam.
The cruise line said authorities have been notified and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Crew members were being offered counselling.
“All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our team members at this difficult time,” the statement said. “The safety, security and well-being of all guests and crew is the company’s absolute priority.”
The cruise line did not provide any further details about the crew members, nor did it say which agency was handling the investigation. The ship departed Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a seven-night voyage.
