(Reuters) – Ukraine’s defense minister said on Monday he and the commander of its armed forces discussed the situation on the front line and arms supplies in the two-year-old war against Russia with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

“We informed Defense Secretary Austin about the current situation at the front and discussed changes in the most important areas,” Defense Minister Rustam Umerov said on Telegram. Armed forces commander Oleksandr Sirsky also attended, he said.

“We are working together on meeting the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and enhancing the capabilities of the military.”

Writing separately on Telegram, Sirski said the two men also spoke to British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps and Britain’s chief of defense staff Sir Tony Radakin.

Sirsky said the discussions focused on the needs of the Ukrainian military and the development of Ukraine’s naval capabilities with the help of Kiev’s allies.
