DUBAI (Reuters) – The United Arab Emirates said it succeeded in brokering the release of 100 Russian prisoners of war in exchange for 100 prisoners of war from the Ukrainian side.

Russia’s Defense Ministry referred to the UAE’s “humanitarian mediation” in a post on the Telegram messaging app, as did Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian body that oversees prisoner-of-war exchanges.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said it was the third mediation effort between Russia and Ukraine this year and was calling for diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation, state news agency WAM reported.
