NEW YORK (AP) — Glitter and glitter were on display with a touch of royalty when Tory Burch showed her fall 2024 collection on Monday. New York Fashion week.
Inspired by common objects such as lampshades or well-worn coats, Burch planned to redefine the look of his designs with this collection.
“I started with the concept of how to make everyday life fantastic,” Burch told The Associated Press in an interview after the show.
He expressed his desire to present the silhouette in a fresh, new way by using creative ways of adding different textures and seams to create a “light” feel.
“I really became obsessed with the idea of volume, but not the idea of heaviness.”

Emily Ratajkowski, Paloma Elsesser, and Irina Shayk, who closed the show in a tinsel raffia coat, were among the models showing the collection’s 34 designs.
Along with other models, they walked down the long, narrow hallway of the New York Public Library, showing variations of Burch’s concept, including a tinsel raffia coat and dress as well as a faux croc top and skirt.
Burch said, “I’ve really thought a lot about working with fabrics that create shape, and whether it’s through the technique of bonding or seam sealing, but the fabric needs to be really feathery and have a lot of stretch. Should stick to the body with.”
While many of the designs took Burch out of her comfort zone, the one that stood out was a hooded sweater with an orange lampshade skirt.
Burch says the vibrancy of the color matches the “beautiful neutral tones” in the collection’s palette.
“I thought what was interesting was how you take neutrals and create enough depth where they resonate as a palette and then surprise them with the parrot blue and that vibrant orange. And so for me, it’s different and we’re constantly trying different things,” she said.
Getting creative with fake materials also played a part in the collection.
“We had a porcupine jacket that was fake fur. The leather was cotton and had a finish on it that looked like croc…it’s a cotton blend. So it’s not – it wasn’t leather. And then we use paper leather.
Using sustainable materials has become more important to Burch, but he says there is still more work to be done in the industry.
“This is a multidimensional problem that we all need to fix collectively. So we’re on it and we’re moving in that direction. But it’s something that I think we (as a company) are doing regardless of putting it out there.”
Celebrity guests included AnnaSophia Robb, Natasha Lyonne and Awkwafina.
