RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) — More than 100 people who became stranded while fishing on an ice floe on the Minnesota River were rescued Friday, officials said.
The fishermen were floating on the ice in the southeastern area of Upper Red Lake in Beltrami County — about 200 miles (322 kilometers) northwest of Minneapolis — when it broke from the shoreline. An emergency call shortly before 5 p.m. said people were stranded more than 30 feet (9 meters) from shore, according to a statement from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
No one had fallen through the ice. But before first responders arrived, bystanders tried to remove some people from the canoe and four people fell into the water, the sheriff’s office said.
He was brought back onto the ice to warm up at a fishing shelter, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, it took about 2 1/2 hours to ultimately rescue 122 people from the snow, and no injuries were reported.

State officials have been warning people to be cautious of unusually thin ice this time of winter.
Tracked vehicles, known locally as “bombers”, are used to transport clients to ice fishing spots away from shore.
