Francis Marion’s Taylor sets NCAA single-game record with 44 rebounds

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Francis Marion center Lauryn Taylor set an NCAA record for all divisions with 44 rebounds in the Patriots’ 85-62 win over North Greenville on Thursday night.

Taylor, a 5-foot-11 senior, pulled down 30 defensive rebounds and 14 offensive boards in a Division II game, the most he has ever seen in an NCAA tournament. Taylor surpassed the Division II mark of 36 set by West Virginia Tech’s Christine DeSaine against Ohio Valley in 1995.

The old NCAA mark was 40 by Delta State’s Deborah Temple versus Alabama-Birmingham in a Division I contest on February 14, 1983.

The Division III score is 38.

Taylor, of Blythewood, South Carolina, broke the Francis Marion mark of 32 set by LaRue Fields in a 1976 win over South Carolina. Taylor grabbed 16 boards in the first quarter, nine in the second, eight in the third and 11 in the third. Fourth.

He also set a career high with 34 points and had his 18th double-double of the season. Taylor doubled his previous rebounding best of 21 this season, set last month against Lees-McRae.
