TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — An inmate at a federal prison in western Indiana has died after an apparent fight with another inmate, officials said.

Inmate Mario Waters, 35, was found unconscious at the U.S. prison in Terre Haute about 12:20 a.m. Monday after an “alleged altercation” with another inmate, the Federal Bureau of Prisons said.

Despite efforts to save his life, Waters was later pronounced dead at a Terre Haute hospital on Monday.

The Bureau of Prisons said the FBI has been notified of Waters’ death.

Waters was sentenced to life in prison in the Eastern District of Arkansas for conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor. He was incarcerated at the high-security federal prison in Terre Haute through April 21, 2023. Tribune Star informed of.
