At least one dead in collapse at Florence construction site

FLORENCE, Italy (Reuters) – A collapse at a construction site in the Italian city of Florence has killed one worker and injured three, Italian news agency Ansa reported on Friday, while local authorities said the death toll had increased. May increase.

Firefighters wrote on their official account on the social media platform

Ansa said the workers were constructing a supermarket.

Eugenio Gianni, president of the Tuscany region, told the SkyTG24 news channel that two workers were pulled from the debris in very serious conditions and that there was little hope for three other workers trapped under the slab.

Without giving exact figures, Giani said on Telegram that earlier more than one person had died.

Florence Mayor Dario Nardella separately told SkyTG24 that three workers died, three were in hospital in stable condition, and an unspecified number were still unaccounted for.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her condolences to the families of the workers.

“I am following the development of the situation with apprehension and I thank all those who are participating in the search for the missing and the rescue of the injured,” she wrote on Twitter.
