7 Lebanese and one Israeli killed in firing on Lebanon-Israel border

HEBBARYE, Lebanon (AP) — An Israeli airstrike early Wednesday on a paramedics center linked to the Lebanese Sunni Muslim group in southern Lebanon killed seven of its members, and a rocket attack from Lebanon killed one person in northern Israel. Done, officials said.

The airstrike hit an office of the Islamic Emergency and Relief Corps just after midnight on Tuesday, according to the Lebanese Ambulance Association. It was one of the deadliest single attacks since violence broke out on the border.

The Paramedics Association listed the names of seven volunteers who died in the strike. It said the strike was a “gross violation of humanitarian action.”

Hebbariye resident Ali Noureddine told The Associated Press that the seven dead were pulled from the debris before sunrise on Wednesday.

The Israeli military said it attacked a military building in Hebbariye and killed a member of Lebanon’s Sunni Muslim al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya, or Islamic group, and several other militants. It said the man was involved in attacks against Israel.

Hours later, Hezbollah said it responded to the airstrike on Wednesday morning by firing dozens of rockets at the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base there.

Rescue services in Israel A 25-year-old man was killed in a fire caused by a direct hit at an industrial park in Kiryat Shmona, it said. In the footage from the incident site, thick black smoke is seen coming out of a building.

Another person was slightly injured. According to the Israeli military, about 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel.

Nada Khalif was at her small bakery in Hebbariyeh when the strike heavily damaged her business and a nearby apartment, where two of her relatives were safe.

“The bakery was my only means of livelihood. It’s gone now,” she said.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group began launching rockets toward Israel on October 7, a day after Hamas-led militants launched attacks in southern Israel. The almost daily violence is mostly confined to the area along the Lebanon-Israel border, and international mediators are scrambling to contain it. Nine civilians and 11 soldiers in Israel have been killed in this fighting. About 240 Hezbollah fighters and about 40 civilians have been killed in Lebanon.
